Ask Sam

Dear Sam -

I'm confused. Where am I supposed to put my carts? In the street? On the sidewalk by the curb?
Someplace else?

Confused

Dear Confused-

I don't blame you for being confused. The Oro Loma Sanitary District covers many areas and many different neighborhoods. All of these areas have unique needs and circumstances. What might work in one place, might not work in another. Customers who are part of the San Lorenzo Village Homeowner's Association are not taking part in the in-the-street, automated recycling pickup program at this time. Parts of Hayward don't use recycling carts at all. Their recycling program remains the same. For everyone else, recycling carts must go in the street with the wheels against the curb. If practical, please put your garbage and green waste carts in the street, too. It's very important that the recycling cart has a three-foot clearance on each side, so the automated arm of the new CNG truck can pick up the cart. If you can't put your garbage and green waste carts in the street, continue to do what you've been doing - put them at the curb, on the sidewalk. If you're still confused, call Waste Management at (510) 613-8710 and they will help you.
