Industrial Waste Pretreatment
The District routinely monitors the industrial discharge into the
sanitary sewer system through site inspections and Video Inspections.
All traps/ interceptors must contain original design equipment and
must be cleaned out on a regular basis. Cleaning frequency depends
on the size of the trap, size of the facility, and activity of the
industry. Industrial/ Commercial users must keep grease trap/ interceptor
cleaning documentation for a minimum of (3) three years on-site.
Restaurant Requirements
Restaurants must comply with the District's pretreatment requirements
and discharge limits for oil and grease (located in Ordinance No.
39-8).
Car Wash Requirements
Car Washes must comply with the District's pretreatment requirements
and discharge limits (located in Ordinance No. 39-8). Illegal dumping
through a car wash is strictly enforced. No engine steam cleaning
is allowed.
Auto Shop/ Parts Cleaners/ Engine Cleaners Requirements
Auto repair facilities must comply with the District's pretreatment
requirements and discharge limits (located in Ordinance No. 39-8).
If hydrocarbon filters are used they must be replaced per manufacturers
recommendations and/ or at a frequency to meet the District's discharge
limits. Any type of auto repair facility process discharge without
pretreatment equipment is strictly prohibited. Auto Repair Facilities
must keep pretreatment equipment, filter replacement, and interceptor
cleaning documentation for a minimum of (3) three years on-site.
Please be aware that it is prohibited to discharge hazardous materials
such as used motor oil, solvents, etc. All such materials must be
properly manifested for disposal.
Dental Office/ Hospital Requirements
Dental offices and hospital discharge must meet our discharge requirements
in Ordinance No. 39-8. Dental office and hospital mercury pretreatment
equipment is enforced using the "Universal Waste Rule"
through the Alameda County Health Agency, Department of Environmental
Health - Hazardous Materials Division. Information on the Universal
